Trying on for size...

Hello all,

I've decided to test out the WordPress blog platform. I won't delete this one, because the photo work I did here so that everything shows up the way I want it to did not import correctly into the WordPress one. So, for the sake or archives, this will remain here.

However, new posts, for the time being, will be here: http://pistachoo.wordpress.com/

We'll see how it goes, and if it doesn't I'll just come back here! (Another reason to not delete this blog!)

Tata for now! :)

The marbles are a rollin', rollin', rollin'...

9:21 am
Gen calls Nancy for a ride to the meeting

9:22 am
Nancy says, "Sure, no problem. I'm always late anyhow. How about at quarter to, I'll come out front and call you?"

9:23 am
Gen says, "Sure, that should give me about 20 minutes or so"

9:23 am
Nancy: "Or twenty-two..."

9:24 am
Gen: "Whatever! *smiles* See you later!"

9:30 am
Gen gets ready

9:50 am
No phone call yet, but Gen's ready, and decides to go wait outside

9:58 am
Gen starts to wonder what's taking so long....

10:05 am
Gen thinks, "Has Nancy forgotten about me?"

10:06 am
Gen goes back upstairs, after realizing that since January the Sunday meeting is at ONE PM, not 10 am. She ponders going back to bed: clearly she didn't get enough sleep.

**Of course, Gen now also realizes that her comment about 20 minutes made little sense to Nancy, and her response was not "twenty-two" but "twenty to"

Global Village?

I just received a phone call from a nice sounding man named Mr Cheng. He cheerfully asked me if he could speak to me in Chinese, to which I replied "You can, if you like, though I won't understand anything." Fortunately he didn't mind continuing in English.

I was somewhat bemused when he went on to ask me if I'd be interested in getting two free handsets with Fido and a joint mobile account for only $35 Hong Kong Dollars. And so I interrupted him to ask "Why Hong Kong Dollars?" Startled, he caught himself and said "sorry, US Dollars!", before continuing with his presentation (again repeating the same curious currency confusion later on).

Thinking this was a mighty strange offer (US Dollars, when I live in Canada?), I asked him where he was calling from. He didn't hear (or he ignored) the question, choosing instead to inquire further about my current mobile plan, contract, and my satisfaction thereof.

He soon realized that I won't be changing phone plans or carriers in immediate future, and so he bid me good day (so polite!) and hung up. It was then that I saw the number displayed on my phone: 852 213 33030. Now anyone in North America will attest to the fact that there is one digit too many at the end of that number. A little sleuthing in Google revealed that it was actually 852 2133 3030 which is the format and area code for Hong Kong based numbers.

Now why on earth is a telemarketer from Hong Kong offering mobile deals to Canadian residents in Chinese, using HK and US currencies?
